Jeremias 27
THE WORD OF THE LORD WHICH HE SPOKE AGAINST BABYLON.ΛΟΓΟΣ ΚΥΡΙΟΥ ὋΝ ἘΛΑΛΗΣΕΝ ἘΠΙ ΒΑΒΥΛΩΝΑ.
Proclaim you among the Gentiles, and cause the tidings to be heard, and suppress them not: say you, Babylon is taken, Belus is confounded; the fearless, the luxurious Maerodach is delivered up.Ἀναγγείλατε ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, καὶ ἀκουστὰ ποιήσατε, καὶ μὴ κρύψητε· εἴπατε, ἑάλωκε Βαβυλὼν, κατῃσχύνθη Βῆλος, ἡ ἀπτόητος, ἡ τρυφερὰ παρεδόθη Μαιρωδὰχ,
For a nation has come up against her from the north, he shall utterly ravage her land, and there shall be none to dwell in it, neither man nor beast.ὅτι ἀνέβη ἐπʼ αὐτὴν ἔθνος ἀπὸ Βοῤῥᾶ, οὗτος θήσει τὴν γῆν αὐτῆς εἰς ἀφανισμὸν, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ κατοικῶν ἐν αὐτῇ ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου καὶ ἕως κτήνους.
In those days, and at that time, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Juda together; they shall proceed, weeping as they go, seeking the Lord their God.Ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἥξουσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ αὐτοὶ, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰούδα ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ, βαδίζοντες καὶ κλαίοντες πορεύσονται, τὸν Κύριον Θεὸν αὐτῶν ζητοῦντες.
They shall ask the way till they come to Sion, for that way shall they set their face; and they shall come and flee for refuge to the Lord their God; for the everlasting covenant shall not be forgotten.Ἕως Σιὼν ἐρωτήσουσι τὴν ὁδὸν, ὧδε γὰρ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν δώσουσι, καὶ ἥξουσι, καὶ καταφεύξονται πρὸς Κύριον τὸν Θεόν· διαθήκη γὰρ αἰώνιος οὐκ ἐπιλησθήσεται.
My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds thrust them out, they caused them to wander on the mountains: they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting-place.Πρόβατα ἀπολωλότα ἐγενήθη ὁ λαός μου, οἱ ποιμένες αὐτῶν ἔξωσαν αὐτοὺς, ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη ἀπεπλάνησαν αὐτοὺς, ἐξ ὄρους ἐπὶ βουνὸν ᾤχοντο, ἐπελάθοντο κοίτης αὐτῶν.
All that found them consumed them: their enemies said, Let us not leave them alone, because they have sinned against the Lord: he that gathered their fathers had a pasture of righteousness.Πάντες οἱ εὑρίσκοντες αὐτοὺς, ἀνήλισκον αὐτούς· οἱ ἐχθροὶ αὐτῶν εἶπαν, Μὴ ἀνῶμεν αὐτοὺς, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἥμαρτον τῷ Κυρίῳ· νομὴ δικαιοσύνης τῷ συναγαγόντι τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν.
Flee you out of the midst of Babylon, and from the land of the Chaldeans, and go forth, and be as serpents before sleep.Ἀπαλλοτριώθητε ἐκ μέσου Βαβυλῶνος καὶ ἀπὸ γῆς Χαλδαίων, καὶ ἐξέλθατε, καὶ γένεσθε ὥσπερ δράκοντες κατὰ πρόσωπον προβάτων.
For, behold, I stir up against Babylon the gatherings of nations out of the land of the north; and they shall set themselves in array against her: thence shall she be taken, as the dart of an expert warrior shall not return empty.Ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐγείρω ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα συναγωγὰς ἐθνῶν ἐκ γῆς Βοῤῥᾶ, καὶ παρατάξονται αὐτῇ· ἐκεῖθεν ἁλώσεται, ὡς βολὶς μαχητοῦ συνετοῦ οὐκ ἐπιστρέψει κενή.
And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied.Καὶ ἔσται ἡ Χαλδαία εἰς προνομὴν, πάντες οἱ προνομεύοντες αὐτὴν ἐμπλησθήσονται.
Because you rejoiced, and boasted, while plundering my heritage; because you exulted as calves in the grass, and pushed with the horn as bulls.Ὅτι ηὐφραίνεσθε, καὶ κατεκαυχᾶσθε, διαρπάζοντες τὴν κληρονομίαν μου, διότι ἐσκιρτᾶτε, ὡς βοΐδια ἐν βοτάνῃ, καὶ ἐκερατίζετε ὡς ταῦροι.
Your mother is greatly ashamed; your mother that bore you for prosperity is confounded: she is the last of the nations, desolate,Ἠσχύνθη ἡ μήτηρ ὑμῶν σφόδρα, ἐνετράπη ἡ τεκοῦσα ὑμᾶς μήτηρ ἐπʼ ἀγαθὰ, ἐσχάτη ἐθνῶν, ἔρημος
by reason of the Lord's anger: it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be all a desolation; and every one that passes through Babylon shall scowl, and they shall hiss at all her plague.ἀπὸ ὀργῆς Κυρίου, οὐ κατοικηθήσεται καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἀφανισμὸν πᾶσα· καὶ πᾶς ὁ διοδεύων διὰ Βαβυλῶνος σκυθρωπάσει, καὶ συριοῦσιν ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν πληγὴν αὐτῆς.
Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about, all you that bend the bow; shoot at her, spare not your arrows,Παρατάξασθε ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα κύκλῳ πάντες τείνοντες τόξον, τοξεύσατε ἐπʼ αὐτὴν, μὴ φείσησθε ἐπὶ τοῖς τοξεύμασιν ὑμῶν,
and prevail against her: her hands are weakened, her bulwarks are fallen, and her wall is broken down: for it is vengeance from God: take vengeance upon her; as she has done, do to her.καὶ κατακρατήσατε αὐτήν· παρελύθησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῆς, ἔπεσαν αἱ ἐπάλξεις αὐτῆς, καὶ κατεσκάφη τὸ τεῖχος αὐτῆς, ὅτι ἐκδίκησις παρὰ Θεοῦ ἐστιν· ἐκδικεῖτε ἐπʼ αὐτὴν, καθὼς ἐποίησε, ποιήσατε αὐτῇ.
Utterly destroy seed out of Babylon, and him that holds a sickle in time of harvest: for fear of the Grecian sword, they shall return every one to his people, and every one shall flee to his own land.Ἐξολοθρεύσασθε σπέρμα ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος, κατέχοντα δρέπανον ἐν καιρῷ θερισμοῦ· ἀπὸ προσώπου μαχαίρας Ἑλληνικῆς, ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἀποστρέψουσι, καὶ ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ φεύξεται.
Israel is a wandering sheep; the lions have driven him out: the king of Assyria first devoured him, and afterward this king of Babylon has gnawed his bones.Πρόβατον πλανώμενον Ἰσραὴλ, λέοντες ἔξωσαν αὐτόν· ὁ πρῶτος ἔφαγεν αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς Ἀσσοὺρ, καὶ οὗτος ὕστερον τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος.
Therefore thus says the Lord; Behold, I will take vengeance on the king of Babylon, and upon his land, as I took vengeance on the king of Assyria.Διατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐκδικῶ ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ, καθὼς ἐξεδίκησα ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα Ἀσσούρ.
And I will restore Israel to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and on mount Ephraim and in Galaad, and his soul shall be satisfied.Καὶ ἀποκαταστήσω τὸν Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὴν νομὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ νεμήσεται ἐν τῷ Καρμήλῳ, καὶ ἐν ὄρει Ἐφραῒμ, καὶ ἐν τῷ Γαλαὰδ, καὶ πλησθήσεται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ.
In those days, and at that time, they shall seek for the iniquity of Israel, and there shall be none; and for the sins of Juda, and they shall not be found: for I will be merciful to them that are leftἘν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ζητήσουσι τὴν ἀδικίαν Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ οὐχ ὑπάρξει, καὶ τὰς ἁμαρτίας Ἰούδα, καὶ οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῶσιν, ὅτι ἵλεως ἔσομαι τοῖς ὑπολελειμμένοις ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
on the land, says the Lord. Go up against it roughly, and against them that dwell on it: avenge, O sword, and destroy utterly, says the Lord, and do according to all that I command you.λέγει Κύριος.
A sound of war, and great destruction in the land of the Chaldeans!Φωνὴ πολέμου καὶ συντριβὴ μεγάλη ἐν γῇ Χαλδαίων.
How is the hammer of the whole earth broken and crushed! How is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!Πῶς ἐκλάσθη καὶ συνετρίβη ἡ σφυρὰ πάσης τῆς γῆς; πῶς ἐγενήθη εἰς ἀφανισμὸν Βαβυλὼν ἐν ἔθνεσιν;
They shall come upon you, and you shall not know it, Babylon, that you will even be taken captive: you are found and taken, because you did resist the Lord.Ἐπιβήσονταί σοι, καὶ οὐ γνώσῃ, ὡς Βαβυλὼν καὶ ἁλώσῃ· εὑρέθης, καὶ ἐλήφθης, ὅτι τῷ Κυρίῳ ἀντέστης.
The Lord has opened his treasury, and brought forth the weapons of his anger: for the Lord God has a work in the land of the Chaldeans.Ἤνοιξε Κύριος τὸν θησαυρὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξήνεγκε τὰ σκεύη ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἔργον τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ ἐν γῇ Χαλδαίων,
For her times are come: open you her storehouses: search her as a cave, and utterly destroy her: let there be no remnant of her.ὅτι ἐληλύθασιν οἱ καιροὶ αὐτῆς· ἀνοίξατε τὰς ἀποθήκας αὐτῆς, ἐρευνήσατε αὐτὴν ὡς σπήλαιον, καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσατε αὐτήν· μὴ γενέσθω αὐτῆς κατάλειμμα·
Dry you up all her fruits, and let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day is come, and the time of their retribution.Ἀναξηράνατε αὐτῆς πάντας τοὺς καρποὺς, καὶ καταβήτωσαν εἰς σφαγήν· οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς, ὅτι ἥκει ἡ ἡμέρα αὐτῶν, καὶ καιρὸς ἐκδικήσεως αὐτῶν.
A voice of men fleeing and escaping from the land of Babylon, to declare to Sion the vengeance that comes from the Lord our God.Φωνὴ φευγόντων, καὶ ἀνασωζομένων ἐκ γῆς Βαβυλῶνος, τοῦ ἀναγγεῖλαι εἰς Σιὼν τὴν ἐκδίκησιν παρὰ Κυρίου Θεοῦ ἡμῶν.
Summon many against Babylon, even every one that bends the bow: camp against her round about; let no one of her people escape: render to her according to her works; according to all that she has done, do to her: for she has resisted the Lord, the Holy God of Israel.Παραγγείλατε ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα πολλοῖς, παντὶ ἐντείνοντι τόξον, παρεμβάλλετε ἐπʼ αὐτὴν κυκλόθεν· μὴ ἔστω αὐτῆς ἀνασωζόμενος· ἀνταπόδοτε αὐτῇ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῆς, κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησε, ποιήσατε αὐτῇ, ὅτι πρὸς Κύριον ἀντέστη Θεὸν ἅγιον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her warriors shall be cast down, says the Lord.Διατοῦτο πεσοῦνται οἱ νεανίσκοι αὐτῆς ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις αὐτῆς, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ αὐτῆς ῥιφήσονται, εἶπε Κύριος.
Behold, I am against you the haughty one, says the Lord: for your day is come, and the time of your retribution.Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπὶ σὲ τὴν ὑβρίστριαν, λέγει Κύριος· ὅτι ἥκει ἡ ἡμέρα σου, καὶ ὁ καιρὸς ἐκδικήσεως σου.
And your pride shall fail, and fall, and there shall be no one to set it up again: and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all things round about her.Καὶ ἀσθενήσει ἡ ὕβρις σου, καὶ πεσεῖται· καὶ οὐδεὶς ἔσται ὁ ἀνιστῶν αὐτήν· καὶ ἀνάψω πῦρ ἐν τῷ δρυμῷ αὐτῆς, καὶ καταφάγεται πάντα τὰ κύκλῳ αὐτῆς.
Thus says the Lord; The children of Israel and the children of Juda have been oppressed: all they that have taken them captive have oppressed them together; for they would not let them go.Τάδε λέγει Κύριος, καταδεδυνάστευνται οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰούδα, ἅμα πάντες οἱ αἰχμαλωτεύσαντες αὐτοὺς, κατεδυνάστευσαν αὐτοὺς, ὅτι οὐκ ἠθέλησαν ἐξαποστεῖλαι αὐτούς.
But their Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name: he will enter into judgment with his adversaries, that he may destroy the earth;Καὶ ὁ λυτρούμενος αὐτοὺς ἰσχυρὸς, Κύριος παντοκράτωρ ὄνομα αὐτῷ· κρίσιν κρινεῖ πρὸς τοὺς ἀντιδίκους αὐτοῦ, ὅπως ἐξάρῃ τὴν γῆν· καὶ παροξυνεῖ τοῖς κατοικοῦσι Βαβυλῶνα,
and he will sharpen a sword against the Chaldeans, and against the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her nobles and upon her wise men;μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς Χαλδαίους, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς μεγιστᾶνας αὐτῆς, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς συνετοὺς αὐτῆς·
a sword upon her warriors, and they shall be weakened: a sword upon their horses, and upon their chariots:Μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς μαχητὰς αὐτῆς, καὶ παραλυθήσονται· μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἵππους αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἅρματα αὐτῶν·
a sword upon their warriors and upon the mixed people in the midst of her; and they shall be as women: a sword upon the treasures, and they shall be scattered upon her water,Μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς μαχητὰς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σύμμικτον τὸν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔσονται ὡσεὶ γυναῖκες· μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς θησαυροὺς, καὶ διασκορπισθήσονται
and they shall be ashamed: for it is a land of graven images; and in the islands, where they boasted.ἐπὶ τῷ ὕδατι αὐτῆς, καὶ καταισχυνθήσονται, ὅτι γῆ τῶν γλυπτῶν ἐστι, καὶ ἐν ταῖς νήσοις, οὗ κατεκαυχῶντο.
Therefore shall idols dwell in the islands, and the young of monsters shall dwell in it: it shall not be inhabited any more for ever.Διατοῦτο κατοικήσουσιν ἰνδάλματα ἐν ταῖς νήσοις, καὶ κατοικήσουσιν ἐν αὐτῇ θυγατέρες σειρήνων, οὐ μὴ κατοικηθῇ οὐκέτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities bordering upon them, says the Lord: no man shall dwell there, and no son of man shall sojourn there.Καθὼς κατέστρεψεν ὁ Θεὸς Σόδομα καὶ Γόμοῤῥα, καὶ τὰς ὁμορούσας αὐταῖς, εἶπε Κύριος, οὐ μὴ κατοικήσει ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος, καὶ οὐ μὴ παροικήσει ἐκεῖ υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου.
Behold, a people comes from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be stirred up from the end of the earth; holding bow and dagger:Ἰδοὺ λαὸς ἔρχεται ἀπὸ Βοῤῥᾶ, καὶ ἔθνος μέγα, καὶ βασιλεῖς πολλοὶ ἐξεγερθήσονται ἀπʼ ἐσχάτου τῆς γῆς,
the people is fierce, and will have no mercy: their voices shall sound as the sea, they shall ride upon horses, prepared for war, like fire, against you, O daughter of Babylon.τόξον καὶ ἐγχειρίδιον ἔχοντες, ἰταμός ἐστι, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐλεήσῃ· ἡ φωνὴ αὐτῶν ὡς θάλασσα ἠχήσει, ἐφʼ ἵπποις ἱππάσονται, παρεσκευασμένοι, ὥσπερ πῦρ, εἰς πόλεμον, πρὸς σὲ, θύγατερ Βαβυλῶνος.
The king of Babylon heard the sound of them, and his hands were enfeebled: anguish overcame him, pangs as of a woman in travail.Ἤκουσε βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τὴν ἀκοὴν αὐτῶν, καὶ παρελύθησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ· θλῖψις κατεκράτησεν αὐτοῦ, ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης.
Behold, he shall come up as a lion from Jordan to Gaethan; for I will speedily drive them from her, and I will set all the youths against her: for who is like me? and who will resist me? and who is this shepherd who will stand before me?Ἰδοὺ ὥσπερ λέων ἀναβήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου εἰς Γαιθὰν, ὅτι ταχέως ἐκδιώξω αὐτοὺς ἀπʼ αὐτῆς, καὶ πάντα νεανίσκον ἐπʼ αὐτὴν ἐπιστήσω· ὅτι τίς ὥσπερ ἐγώ; καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεταί μοι; καὶ τίς οὗτος ποιμὴν, ὃς στήσεται κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου;
Therefore hear you the counsel of the Lord, which he has taken against Babylon; and his devices, which he has devised upon the Chaldeans inhabiting it: surely lambs of their flock shall be destroyed: surely pasture shall be cut off from them.Διατοῦτο ἀκούσατε τὴν βουλὴν Κυρίου ἣν βεβούλευται ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ λογισμοὺς αὐτοῦ οὓς ἐλογίσατο ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Χαλδαίους· ἐὰν μὴ διαφθαρῇ τὰ ἀρνία τῶν προβάτων αὐτῶν, ἐὰν μὴ ἀφανισθῇ νομὴ ἀπʼ αὐτῶν.
For at the sound of the taking of Babylon the earth shall quake, and a cry shall be heard among the nations.Ὅτι ἀπὸ φωνῆς ἁλώσεως Βαβυλῶνος σεισθήσεται ἡ γῆ, καὶ κραυγὴ ἐν ἔθνεσιν ἀκουσθήσεται.
