Jeremias 7

Hear you the word of the Lord, all Judea.Ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου πᾶσα Ἰουδαία.

Thus says the Lord God of Israel, Correct your ways and your devices, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.Τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ, διορθώσατε τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν, καὶ κατοικιῶ ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ.

Trust not in yourselves with lying words, for they shall not profit you at all, saying, It is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.Μὴ πεποίθατε ἐφʼ ἑαυτοῖς ἐπὶ λόγοις ψευδέσιν, ὅτι τὸ παράπαν οὐκ ὠφελήσουσιν ὑμᾶς, λέγοντες, ναὸς Κυρίου, ναὸς Κυρίου ἐστίν.

For if you thoroughly correct your ways and your practices, and do indeed execute judgment between a man and his neighbor;Ὅτι ἐὰν διορθοῦντες διορθώσητε τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν, καὶ ποιοῦντες ποιήσητε κρίσιν ἀναμέσον ἀνδρὸς, καὶ ἀναμέσον τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ,

and oppress not the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, and go not after strange gods to your hurt:καὶ προσήλυτον καὶ ὀρφανὸν καὶ χήραν μὴ καταδυναστεύσητε, καὶ αἷμα ἀθῶον μὴ ἐκχέητε ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ, καὶ ὀπίσω θεῶν ἀλλοτρίων μὴ πορεύησθε εἰς κακὸν ὑμῖν,

then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land which I gave to your fathers of old and for ever.καὶ κατοικιῶ ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ ἐν γῇ ᾗ ἔδωκα τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν ἐξ αἰῶνος καὶ ἕως αἰῶνος.

But whereas you have trusted in lying words, whereby you shall not be profited;Εἰ δὲ ὑμεῖς πεποίθατε ἐπὶ λόγοις ψευδέσιν, ὅθεν οὐκ ὠφεληθήσεσθε,

and you murder, and commit adultery, and steal, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and are gone after strange gods whom you know not,καὶ φονεύετε, καὶ μοιχᾶσθε, καὶ κλέπτετε, καὶ ὀμνύετε ἐπʼ ἀδίκῳ, καὶ θυμιᾶτε τῇ Βάαλ, καὶ ἐπορεύεσθε ὀπίσω θεῶν ἀλλοτρίων, ὧν οὐκ οἴδατε, τοῦ κακῶς εἶναι ὑμῖν,

so that it is evil with you; yet have you come, and stood before me in the house, whereon my name is called, and you have said, We have refrained from doing all these abominations.καὶ ἤλθετε καὶ ἔστητε ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ εἴπατε, ἀπεσχήμεθα τοῦ μὴ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ βδελύγματα ταῦτα.

Is my house, whereon my name is called, a den of robbers in your eyes? And, behold, I have seen it, says the Lord.Μὴ σπήλαιον λῃστῶν ὁ οἶκός μου, οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ ἐκεῖ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν; καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἑώρακα, λέγει Κύριος.

For go you to my place which is in Selo, where I caused my name to dwell before, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.Ὅτι πορεύθητε εἰς τὸν τόπον μου τὸν ἐν Σηλὼ, οὗ κατεσκήνωσα τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐκεῖ ἔμπροσθεν, καὶ ἴδετε ἃ ἐποίησα αὐτῷ ἀπὸ προσώπου κακίας λαοῦ μου Ἰσραήλ.

And now, because you have done all these deeds, and I spoke to you, but you listened not to me; and I called you, but you answered not;Καὶ νῦν ἀνθʼ ὧν ἐποιήσατε πάντα τὰ ἔργα ταῦτα, καὶ ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατέ μου, καὶ ἐκάλεσα ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθητε,

therefore I also will do to the house whereon my name is called, wherein you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Selo.τοίνυν κᾀγὼ ποιήσω τῷ οἴκῳ ᾧ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, ἐφʼ ᾧ ὑμεῖς πεποίθατε ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ τῷ τόπῳ ᾧ ἔδωκα ὑμῖν καὶ τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν, καθὼς ἐποίησα τῇ Σηλώ.

And I will cast you out of my sight, as I cast away your brethren, all the seed of Ephraim.Καὶ ἀποῤῥίψω ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ προσώπου μου, καθὼς ἀπέῤῥιψα τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν, πᾶν τὸ σπέρμα Ἐφραΐμ.

Therefore pray not you for this people, and intercede not for them to be pitied, yes, pray not, and approach me not for them: for I will not listen to you.Καὶ σὺ μὴ προσεύχου περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου, καὶ μὴ ἀξιοῦ τοῦ ἐλεηθῆναι αὐτοὺς, καὶ μὴ εὔχου, καὶ μὴ προσέλθῃς μοι περὶ αὐτῶν, ὅτι οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι.

Seest you not what they do in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem?Ἢ οὐχ ὁρᾷς, τί αὐτοὶ ποιοῦσιν ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς Ἱερουσαλήμ;

Their children gather wood, and their fathers kindle a fire, and their women knead dough, to make cakes to the host of heaven; and they have poured out drink-offerings to strange gods, that they might provoke me to anger.Οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν συλλέγουσι ξύλα, καὶ οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν καίουσι πῦρ, καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν τρίβουσι σταῖς, τοῦ ποιῆσαι καυῶνας τῇ στρατιᾷ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἔσπεισαν σπονδὰς θεοῖς ἀλλοτρίοις, ἵνα παροργίσωσί με.

Do they provoke me to anger? says the Lord: do they not provoke themselves, that their faces may be ashamed?Μὴ ἐμὲ αὐτοὶ παροργίζουσι; λέγει Κύριος· οὐχὶ ἑαυτοὺς, ὅπως καταισχυνθῇ τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν;

Therefore thus says the Lord; Behold, my anger and wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and upon the men, and upon the cattle, and upon every tree of their field, and upon the fruits of the land; and it shall burn, and not be quenched.Διατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἰδοὺ ὀργὴ καὶ θυμός μου χεῖται ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη, καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶν ξύλου τοῦ ἀγροῦ αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ γεννήματα τῆς γῆς, καὶ καυθήσεται καὶ οὐ σβεσθήσεται.

Thus says the Lord, Gather your whole burnt offerings with your meat-offerings, and eat flesh.Τάδε λέγει Κύριος, τὰ ὁλοκαυτώματα ὑμῶν συναγάγετε μετὰ τῶν θυσιῶν ὑμῶν, καὶ φάγετε κρέα.

For I spoke not to your fathers, and commanded them not in the day wherein I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, concerning whole burnt offerings and sacrifice:Ὅτι οὐκ ἐλάλησα πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἀνήγαγον αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, περὶ ὁλοκαυτωμάτων καὶ θυσίας.

but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hear you my voice, and I will be to you a God, and you shall be to me a people: and walk you in all my ways which I shall command you, that it may be well with you.Ἀλλʼ ἢ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς, λέγων, ἀκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου, καὶ ἔσομαι ὑμῖν εἰς Θεὸν, καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔσεσθέ μοι εἰς λαὸν, καὶ πορεύεσθε ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς μου, αἷς ἂν ἐντείλωμαι ὑμῖν, ὅπως ἂν εὖ ᾖ ὑμῖν.

But they listened not to me, and their ear gave no heed, but they walked in the imaginations of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward;Καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσάν μου, καὶ οὐ προσέσχε τὸ οὖς αὐτῶν, ἀλλʼ ἐπορεύθησαν ἐν τοῖς ἐνθυμήμασι τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν τῆς κακῆς, καὶ ἐγενήθησαν εἰς τὰ ὄπισθεν· καὶ οὐκ εἰς τὰ ἔμπροσθεν,

from the day that their fathers went forth out of the land of Egypt, even until this day. And I sent to you all my servants, the prophets, by day and early in the morning: yes, I sent them,ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ἐξήλθοσαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης· καὶ ἐξαπέστειλα πρὸς ὑμᾶς πάντας τοὺς δούλους μου, τοὺς προφήτας, ἡμέρας καὶ ὄρθρου, καὶ ἀπέστειλα,

but they listened not to me, and their ear gave no heed; and they made their neck harder than their fathers.καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσάν μου, καὶ οὐ προσέσχε τὸ οὖς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐσκλήρυναν τὸν τράχηλον αὐτῶν ὑπὲρ τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν.

Therefore you shall speak this word to them;Καὶ ἐρεῖς αὐτοῖς τοῦτον τὸν λόγον,

This is the nation which has not listened to the voice of the Lord, nor received correction: truth has failed from their mouth.τοῦτο τὸ ἔθνος ὃ οὐκ ἤκουσε τῆς φωνῆς Κυρίου, οὐδὲ ἐδέξατο παιδείαν, ἐξέλιπεν ἡ πίστις ἐκ στόματος αὐτῶν.

Cut off your hair, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on your lips; for the Lord has reprobated and rejected the generation that does these things.Κεῖρε τὴν κεφαλήν σου, καὶ ἀπόῤῥιπτε, καὶ ἀνάλαβε ἐπὶ χειλέων θρῆνον, ὅτι ἀπεδοκίμασε Κύριος, καὶ ἀπώσατο τὴν γενεὰν τὴν ποιοῦσαν ταῦτα.

For the children of Juda have wrought evil before me, says the Lord; they have set their abominations in the house on which my name is called, to defile it.Ὅτι ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰούδα τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ, λέγει Κύριος· ἔταξαν τὰ βδελύγματα αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ, οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτὸν, τοῦ μιάναι αὐτόν.

And they have built the altar of Taphes, which is in the valley of the son of Ennom, to burn their sons and their daughters with fire; which I did not command them to do, neither did I design it in my heart.Καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν τὸν βωμὸν τοῦ Ταφὲθ, ὅς ἐστιν ἐν φάραγγι υἱοῦ Ἐννὸμ, τοῦ κατακαίειν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῶν ἐν πυρὶ, ὃ οὐκ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς, καὶ οὐ διενοήθην ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ μου.

Therefore, behold, the days come, says the Lord, when they shall no more say, The altar of Taphes, and the valley of the son of Ennom, but, The valley of the slain; and they shall bury in Taphes, for lack of room.Διατοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται, λέγει Κύριος, καὶ οὐκ ἐροῦσιν ἔτι, Βωμὸς τοῦ Ταφὲθ καὶ φάραγξ υἱοῦ Ἐννὸμ, ἀλλʼ ἡ φάραγξ τῶν ἀνῃρημένων· καὶ θάψουσιν ἐν τῷ Ταφὲθ, διὰ τὸ μὴ ὑπάρχειν τόπον.

And the dead bodies of this people shall be for food to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and there shall be none to drive them away.Καὶ ἔσονται οἱ νεκροὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου εἰς βρῶσιν τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ τοῖς θηρίοις τῆς γῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἀποσοβῶν.

And I will destroy out of the cities of Juda, and the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of them that make merry, and the voice of them that rejoice, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride; for the whole land shall become a desolation.Καὶ καταλύσω ἐκ πόλεων Ἰούδα καὶ ἐκ διόδων Ἱερουσαλὴμ φωνὴν εὐφραινομένων, καὶ φωνὴν χαιρόντων, φωνὴν νυμφίου, καὶ φωνὴν νύμφης, ὅτι εἰς ἐρήμωσιν ἔσται πᾶσα ἡ γῆ.
