Jezekiel 20
And it came to pass in the seventh year, on the fifteenth day of the month, there came men of the elders of the house of Israel to enquire of the Lord, and they sat before me.Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ ἑβδόμῳ τῇ πεντεκαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς, ἦλθον ἄνδρες ἐκ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων οἴκου Ἰσραὴλ, ἐπερωτῆσαι τὸν Κύριον, καὶ ἐκάθισαν πρὸ προσώπου μου.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρὸς μὲ, λέγων,
Son of man, speak to the elders of the house of Israel, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord; Are you come to enquire of me? As I live, I will not be enquired of by you, says the Lord.υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, λάλησον πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τοῦ οἴκου Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, εἰ ἐπερωτῆσαί με ὑμεῖς ἔρχεσθε; ζῶ ἐγὼ, εἰ ἀποκριθήσομαι ὑμῖν, λέγει Κύριος.
Shall I utterly take vengeance on them, son of man? testify to them of the iniquities of their fathers:Εἰ ἐκδικήσω αὐτοὺς ἐκδικήσει, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου; τὰς ἀνομίας τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν διαμάρτυραι αὐτοῖς,
and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord; From the day that I chose the house of Israel, and became known to the seed of the house of Jacob, and was known to them in the land of Egypt, and helped them with my hand, saying, I am the Lord your God;καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, Ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ᾑρέτισα τὸν οἶκον Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ἐγνωρίσθην τῷ σπέρματι οἴκου Ἰακώβ, καὶ ἐγνώσθην αὐτοῖς ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἀντελαβόμην τῇ χειρί μου αὐτῶν, λέγων, ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν·
in that day I helped them with my hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into the land which I prepared for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is abundant beyond every land.Ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἀντελαβόμην τῇ χειρί μου αὐτῶν, τοῦ ἐξαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ἡτοίμασα αὐτοῖς, γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι, κηρίον ἐστὶ παρὰ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν.
And I said to them, Let every one cast away the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the devices of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.Καὶ εἶπα πρὸς αὐτοὺς, ἕκαστος βδελύγματα τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτοῦ ἀποῤῥιψάτω, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν Αἰγύπτου μὴ μιαίνεσθε, ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν.
But they revolted from me, and would not listen to me: they cast not away the abominations of their eyes, and forsook not the devices of Egypt: then I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my wrath upon them in the midst of Egypt.Καὶ ἀπέστησαν ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν εἰσακοῦσαί μου, τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀπέῤῥιψαν, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα Αἰγύπτου οὐκ ἐγκατέλιπον· καὶ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, τοῦ συντελέσαι ὀργήν μου ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐν μέσῳ τῆς Αἰγύπτου.
But I wrought so that my name should not be at all profaned in the sight of the Gentiles, in the midst of whom they are, among whom I was made known to them in their sight, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.Καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν αὐτοί εἰσιν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν, ἐν οἷς ἐγνώσθην πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν, τοῦ ἐξαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου.
And I brought them into the wilderness.Καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἔρημον,
And I gave them my commandments, and made known to them my ordinances, all which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them.καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς τὰ προστάγματά μου, καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἐγνώρισα αὐτοῖς, ὅσα ποιήσει αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος, καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς.
And I gave them my sabbaths, that they should be for a sign between me and them, that they should know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.Καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς, τοῦ εἶναι εἰς σημεῖον ἀναμέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀναμέσον αὐτῶν, τοῦ γνῶναι αὐτοὺς διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ ἁγιάζων αὐτούς.
And I said to the house of Israel in the wilderness, Walk you in my commandments: but they walked not in them, and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them; and they grievously profaned my sabbaths: and I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.Καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασί μου πορεύεσθε· καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν· καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἀπώσαντο, ἃ ποιήσει αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς· καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλωσαν σφόδρα· καὶ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, τοῦ ἐξαναλῶσαι αὐτούς.
But I wrought so that my name should not be at all profaned before the Gentiles, before whose eyes I brought them out.Καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν ἐξήγαγον αὐτοὺς κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν.
But I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness once for all, that I would not bring them into the land which I gave them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is sweeter than all lands:Καὶ ἐγὼ ἐξῇρα τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τὸ παράπαν, τοῦ μὴ εἰσαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς, γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι· κηρίον ἐστὶ παρὰ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν·
because they rejected my ordinances, and walked not in my commandments, but profaned my sabbaths, and went after the imaginations of their hearts.Ἀνθʼ ὧν τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἀπώσαντο, καὶ ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασί μου οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν, καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν ἐνθυμημάτων καρδίας αὐτῶν ἐπορεύοντο.
Yet my eyes spared them, so as not to destroy them utterly, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.Καὶ ἐφείσατο ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, τοῦ ἐξαλεῖψαι αὐτοὺς, καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησα αὐτοὺς εἰς συντέλειαν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.
And I said to their children in the wilderness, Walk not you in the customs of your fathers, and keep not their ordinances, and have no fellowship with their practices, nor defile yourselves with them.Καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐν τοῖς νομίμοις τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν μὴ πορεύεσθε, καὶ τὰ δικαιώματα αὐτῶν μὴ φυλάσσεσθε, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν αὐτῶν μὴ συναναμίσγεσθε, καὶ μὴ μιαίνεσθε.
I am the Lord your God; walk in my commandments, and keep my ordinances, and do them;Ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν· ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασί μου πορεύεσθε, καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου φυλάσσεσθε, καὶ ποιεῖτε αὐτά.
and hallow my sabbaths, and let them be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.Καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἁγιάζετε, καὶ ἔστω εἰς σημεῖον ἀναμέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν, τοῦ γινώσκειν διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν.
But they provoked me, and their children walked not in my commandments, and they took no heed to my ordinances to do them, which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them, and they profaned my sabbaths: then I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to accomplish my anger upon them.Καὶ παρεπίκρανάν με, καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασί μου οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου οὐκ ἐφυλάξαντο τοῦ ποιεῖν αὐτὰ, ἃ ποιήσει ἄνθρωπος καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν· καῖ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, τοῦ συντελέσαι τὴν ὀργήν μου ἐπʼ αὐτούς.
But I wrought so that my name might not be at all profaned before the Gentiles; and I brought them out in their sight.Καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, καὶ ἐξήγαγον αὐτοὺς κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν.
I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the Gentiles, and disperse them in the countries;Ἐξῇρα τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ διασκορπίσαι αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, διασπεῖραι αὐτοὺς ἐν ταῖς χώραις,
because they kept not my ordinances, and rejected my commandments, and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes went after the imaginations of their fathers.ἀνθʼ ὧν τὰ δικαιώματά μου οὐκ ἐποίησαν, καὶ τὰ προστάγματά μου ἀπώσαντο, καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν ἐνθυμημάτων τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν ἦσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν.
So I gave them commandments that were not good, and ordinances in which they should not live.Καὶ ἐγὼ ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς προστάγματα οὐ καλὰ, καὶ δικαιώματα ἐν οἷς οὐ ζήσονται ἐν αὐτοῖς.
And I will defile them by their own decrees, when I pass through upon every one that opens the womb, that I may destroy them.Καὶ μιανῶ αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς δόγμασιν αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ διαπορεύεσθαί με πᾶν διανοῖγον μήτραν, ὅπως ἀφανίσω αὐτούς.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: Hitherto have your fathers provoked me in their trespasses in which they transgressed against me.Διατοῦτο λάλησον πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτοὺς, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἕως τούτου παρώργισάν με οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν τοῖς παραπτώμασιν αὐτῶν ἐν οἷς παρέπεσον εἰς ἐμέ.
Whereas I brought them into the land concerning which I lifted up my hand to give it them; and they looked upon every high hill, and every shady tree, and they sacrificed there to their gods, and offered there sweet smelling savor, and there they poured out their drink-offerings.Καὶ εἰσήγαγον αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ᾖρα τὴν χεῖρά μου δοῦναι αὐτὴν αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἴδον πάντα βουνὸν ὑψηλὸν, καὶ πᾶν ξύλον κατάσκιον, καὶ ἔθυσαν ἐκεῖ τοῖς θεοῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἔταξαν ἐκεῖ ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας, καὶ ἔσπεισαν ἐκεῖ τὰς σπονδὰς αὐτῶν.
And I said to them, What is Abama, that you go in there? and they called its name Abama, until this day.Καὶ εἶπον πρὸς αὐτοὺς, τί ἐστιν Ἀβαμὰ, ὅτι ὑμεῖς εἰσπορεύεσθε ἐκεῖ; καὶ ἐπεκάλεσαν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἀβαμὰ, ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας·
Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord, Do you pollute yourselves with the iniquities of your fathers, and do you go a-whoring after their abominations,Διατοῦτο εἰπὸν πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, εἰ ἐν ταῖς ἀνομίαις τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν ὑμεῖς μιαίνεσθε, καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν βδελυγμάτων αὐτῶν ὑμεῖς ἐκπορνεύετε,
and do you pollute yourselves with the first fruits of your gifts, in the offerings wherewith you pollute yourselves in all your imaginations, until this day; and shall I answer you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord, I will not answer you, neither shall this thing come upon your spirit.καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἀπαρχαῖς τῶν δομάτων ὑμῶν, ἐν τοῖς ἀφορισμοῖς οἷς ὑμεῖς μιαίνεσθε ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἐνθυμήμασιν ὑμῶν ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας, καὶ ἐγὼ ἀποκριθῶ ὑμῖν οἶκος τοῦ Ἰσραήλ; Ζῶ ἐγὼ, λέγει Κύριος, εἰ ἀποκριθήσομαι ὑμῖν, καὶ εἰ ἀναβήσεται ἐπὶ τὸ πνεῦμα ὑμῶν τοῦτο.
And it shall not be as you say, We will be as the nations, and as the tribes of the earth, to worship stocks and stones.Καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὃν τρόπον ὑμεῖς λέγετε, ἐσόμεθα ὡς τὰ ἔθνη, καὶ ὡς αἱ φυλαὶ τῆς γῆς, τοῦ λατρεύειν ξύλοις καὶ λίθοις.
Therefore, as I live, says the Lord, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with a high arm, and with outpoured wrath:Διατοῦτο, ζῶ ἐγὼ, λέγει Κύριος, ἐν χειρὶ κραταιᾷ καὶ ἐν βραχίονι ὑψηλῷ καὶ ἐν θυμῷ κεχυμένῳ βασιλεύσω ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς,
I will bring you out from the nations, and will take you out of the lands wherein you were dispersed, with a strong hand, and with a high arm, and with outpoured wrath.καὶ ἐξάξω ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῶν λαῶν, καὶ εἰσδέξομαι ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῶν χωρῶν οὗ διεσκορπίσθητε ἐν αὐταῖς, ἐν χειρὶ κραταιᾷ καὶ ἐν βραχίονι ὑψηλῷ καὶ ἐν θυμῷ κεχυμένῳ.
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the nations, and will plead with you there face to face.Καὶ ἄξω ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τῶν λαῶν, καὶ διακριθήσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐκεῖ πρόσωπον κατὰ προσώπον.
As I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I judge you, says the Lord.Ὃν τρόπον διεκρίθην πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, οὕτως κρινῶ ὑμᾶς, λέγει Κύριος.
And I will cause you to pass under my rod, and I will bring you in by number.Καὶ διάξω ὑμᾶς ὑπὸ τὴν ῥάβδον μου, καὶ εἰσάξω ὑμᾶς ἐν ἀριθμῷ.
And I will separate from among you the ungodly and the revolters; for I will lead them forth out of their place of sojourning, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the Lord, even the Lord.Καὶ ἐκλέξω ἐξ ὑμῶν τοὺς ἀσεβεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἀφεστηκότας, διότι ἐκ τῆς παροικεσίας αὐτῶν ἐξάξω αὐτοὺς, καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ οὐκ εἰσελεύσονται· καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος Κύριος.
And as to you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord, even the Lord; Put away each one his evil practices, and hereafter if you listen to me, then shall you no more profane my holy name by your gifts and by devices.Καὶ ὑμεῖς οἶκος Ἰσραὴλ, τάδε λέγει Κύριος Κύριος, ἕκαστος τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα αὐτοῦ ἐξάρατε, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα εἰ ὑμεῖς εἰσακούετέ μου, καὶ τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ ἅγιον οὐ βεβηλώσετε οὐκέτι ἐν τοῖς δώροις ὑμῶν καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν ὑμῶν·
For upon my holy mountain, on the high mountain, says the Lord, even the Lord, there shall all the house of Israel serve me for ever: and there will I accept you, and there will I have respect to your first fruits, and the first fruits of your offerings, in all your holy things.Διότι ἐπι τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ ἁγίου μου, ἐπʼ ὄρους ὑψηλοῦ, λέγει Κύριος Κύριος, ἐκεῖ δουλεύσουσί μοι πᾶς οἶκος Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τέλος· καὶ ἐκεῖ προσδέξομαι, καὶ ἐκεῖ ἐπισκέψομαι τὰς ἀπαρχὰς ὑμῶν, καὶ τὰς ἀπαρχὰς τῶν ἀφορισμῶν ὑμῶν, ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἁγιάσμασιν ὑμῶν.
I will accept you with a sweet smelling savor, when I bring you out from the nations, and take you out of the countries wherein you have been dispersed; and I will be sanctified among you in the sight of the nations.Ἐν ὀσμῇ εὐωδίας προσδέξομαι ὑμᾶς, ἐν τῷ ἐξαγαγεῖν με ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῶν λαῶν, καὶ εἰσδέχεσθαι ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῶν χωρῶν ἐν αἷς διεσκορπίσθητε ἐν αὐταῖς, καὶ ἁγιασθήσομαι ἐν ὑμῖν κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς τῶν λαῶν.
And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have brought you into the land of Israel, into the land concerning which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.Καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος, ἐν τῷ εἰσαγαγεῖν με ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, εἰς τὴν γῆν εἰς ἣν ᾖρα τὴν χεῖρά μου τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτὴν τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν.
And you shall there remember your ways, and your devices wherewith you defiled yourselves; and you shall bewail yourselves for all your wickedness.Καὶ μνησθήσεσθε ἐκεῖ τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν, καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν ἐν οἷς ἐμιαίνεσθε ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ κόψεσθε τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς κακίαις ὑμῶν.
And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have done thus to you, that my name may not be profaned in your evil ways, and in your corrupt devices, says the Lord.Καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος, ἐν τῷ ποιῆσαί με οὕτως ὑμῖν, ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου μὴ βεβηλωθῇ κατὰ τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν τὰς κακὰς, καὶ κατὰ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν τὰ διεφθαρμένα, λέγει Κύριος.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Son of man, set your face against Thaeman, and look toward Darom, and prophesy against the chief forest of Nageb,
and you shall say to the forest of Nageb, Hear the word of the Lord; thus says the Lord, even the Lord; Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour in you every green tree, and every dry tree: the flame that is kindled shall not be quenched, and every face shall be scorched with it from the south to the north.
And all flesh shall know that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
And I said, Not so, O Lord God! they say to me, Is not this that is spoken a parable?
