Luke 22

1Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.Ἤγγιζε δὲ ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἀζύμων, ἡ λεγομένη Πάσχα.

2And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.Καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν· ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν.

3Then Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve.Εἰσῆλθε δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν ἐπικαλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην, ὄντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα.

4And he went off and spoke with the chief priests and captains about how he might betray Him to them.Καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησε τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσι καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτὸν παραδῷ αὐτοῖς.

5And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.Καὶ ἐχάρησαν, καὶ συνέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀργύριον δοῦναι.

6And he promised, and was seeking an opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the crowd.Καὶ ἐξωμολόγησε καὶ ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν αὐτοῖς ἄτερ ὄχλου.

7Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.Ἦλθε δὲ ἡ ἡμέρα τῶν ἀζύμων, ἐν ᾗ ἔδει θύεσθαι τὸ Πάσχα.

8And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.”Καὶ ἀπέστειλε Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην, εἰπών, Πορευθέντες ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν τὸ Πάσχα, ἵνα φάγωμεν.

9So they said to Him, “Where do You desire that we shall prepare it?”Οἱ δὲ εἶπον αὐτῷ, Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμεν;

10And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in.Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ἰδού, εἰσελθόντων ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν πόλιν, συναντήσει ὑμῖν ἄνθρωπος κεράμιον ὕδατος βαστάζων· ἀκολουθήσατε αὐτῷ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν οὗ εἰσπορεύεται.

11Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’Καὶ ἐρεῖτε τῷ οἰκοδεσπότῃ τῆς οἰκίας, Λέγει σοι ὁ διδάσκαλος, Ποῦ ἐστι τὸ κατάλυμα, ὅπου τὸ Πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου φάγω;

12And that man will show you a large, furnished upper room; there prepare it.”Κἀκεῖνος ὑμῖν δείξει ἀνώγεον μέγα ἐστρωμένον· ἐκεῖ ἑτοιμάσατε.

13So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.Ἀπελθόντες δὲ εὗρον καθὼς εἴρηκεν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ Πάσχα.

14When the hour had come, He reclined to eat, and the twelve apostles with Him.Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο ἡ ὥρα, ἀνέπεσε, καὶ οἱ δώδεκα ἀπόστολοι σὺν αὐτῷ.

15Then He said to them, “I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;Καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς, Ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα τοῦτο τὸ Πάσχα φαγεῖν μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν πρὸ τοῦ με παθεῖν·

16for I say to you, that no longer will I eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ φάγω ἐξ αὐτοῦ, ἕως ὅτου πληρωθῇ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ.

17Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;Καὶ δεξάμενος ποτήριον, εὐχαριστήσας εἶπε, Λάβετε τοῦτο, καὶ διαμερίσατε ἑαυτοῖς·

18for I say to you, that I will by no means drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπὸ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου, ἕως ὅτου ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ἔλθῃ.

19And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”Καὶ λαβὼν ἄρτον, εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασε καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς, λέγων, Τοῦτό ἐστι τὸ σῶμά μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν διδόμενον· τοῦτο ποιεῖτε εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ἀνάμνησιν.

20Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.Ὡσαύτως καὶ τὸ ποτήριον μετὰ τὸ δειπνῆσαι, λέγων, Τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἡ καινὴ διαθήκη ἐν τῷ αἵματί μου, τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐκχυνόμενον.

21Nevertheless behold, the hand of him that betrays Me is with Me on the table.Πλὴν ἰδού, ἡ χεὶρ τοῦ παραδιδόντος με μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης.

22And indeed the Son of Man goes according to what is determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”Καὶ ὁ μὲν υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πορεύεται κατὰ τὸ ὡρισμένον· πλὴν οὐαὶ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ δι᾽ οὗ παραδίδοται.

23Then they began to discuss with one another, which of them might be the one who was about to do this.Καὶ αὐτοὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς τὸ τίς ἄρα εἴη ἐξ αὐτῶν ὁ τοῦτο μέλλων πράσσειν.

24And there arose also a dispute among them, as to which one of them was the greatest.Ἐγένετο δὲ καὶ φιλονεικία ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸ τίς αὐτῶν δοκεῖ εἶναι μείζων.

25But He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Οἱ βασιλεῖς τῶν ἐθνῶν κυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ ἐξουσιάζοντες αὐτῶν εὐεργέται καλοῦνται.

26But it is not this way with you; let the greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as he who serves.Ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως· ἀλλ᾽ ὁ μείζων ἐν ὑμῖν γενέσθω ὡς ὁ νεώτερος· καὶ ὁ ἡγούμενος ὡς ὁ διακονῶν.

27For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.Τίς γὰρ μείζων, ὁ ἀνακείμενος ἢ ὁ διακονῶν; Οὐχὶ ὁ ἀνακείμενος; Ἐγὼ δέ εἰμι ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν ὡς ὁ διακονῶν.

28“Now you are those who have remained with Me in My trials.Ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε οἱ διαμεμενηκότες μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς μου·

29And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me,κἀγὼ διατίθεμαι ὑμῖν, καθὼς διέθετό μοι ὁ πατήρ μου, βασιλείαν,

30so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”ἵνα ἐσθίητε καὶ πίνητε ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου καὶ καθίσεσθε ἐπὶ θρόνων, κρίνοντες τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.

31And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Behold, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.Εἶπε δὲ ὁ Κύριος, Σίμων, Σίμων, ἰδού, ὁ Σατανᾶς ἐξῃτήσατο ὑμᾶς, τοῦ σινιάσαι ὡς τὸν σῖτον·

32But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”ἐγὼ δὲ ἐδεήθην περὶ σοῦ, ἵνα μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἡ πίστις σου· καὶ σύ ποτε ἐπιστρέψας στήριξον τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου.

33But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Κύριε, μετὰ σοῦ ἕτοιμός εἰμι καὶ εἰς φυλακὴν καὶ εἰς θάνατον πορεύεσθαι.

34Then He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”Ὁ δὲ εἶπε, Λέγω σοι, Πέτρε, οὐ μὴ φωνήσῃ σήμερον ἀλέκτωρ, πρὶν ἢ τρὶς ἀπαρνήσῃ μὴ εἰδέναι με.

35And He said to them, “When I sent you without a money bag, and a knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” And they said, “Nothing.”Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ὅτε ἀπέστειλα ὑμᾶς ἄτερ βαλαντίου καὶ πήρας καὶ ὑποδημάτων, μή τινος ὑστερήσατε; Οἱ δὲ εἶπον, Οὐθενός.

36Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise also a knapsack; and he who has no sword shall sell his garment and buy one.Εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς, Ἀλλὰ νῦν ὁ ἔχων βαλάντιον ἀράτω, ὁμοίως καὶ πήραν· καὶ ὁ μὴ ἔχων, πωλήσει τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀγοράσει μάχαιραν.

37For I say to you that this which has been written must still be accomplished in Me—the saying, ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have a fulfillment.”Λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι ἔτι τοῦτο τὸ γεγραμμένον δεῖ τελεσθῆναι ἐν ἐμοί, τὸ Καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη· καὶ γὰρ τὰ περὶ ἐμοῦ τέλος ἔχει.

38So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”Οἱ δὲ εἶπον, Κύριε, ἰδού, μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο. Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ἱκανόν ἐστι.

39And going out, He went to the Mount of Olives, according to His custom, and His disciples also followed Him.Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐπορεύθη κατὰ τὸ ἔθος εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν· ἠκολούθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ.

40And having come to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”Γενόμενος δὲ ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Προσεύχεσθε μὴ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς πειρασμόν.

41And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed,Καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπεσπάσθη ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λίθου βολήν, καὶ θεὶς τὰ γόνατα προσηύχετο,

42saying, “Father, if You will, remove this cup from Me—nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”λέγων, Πάτερ, εἰ βούλει παρενεγκεῖν τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ· πλὴν μὴ τὸ θέλημά μου, ἀλλὰ τὸ σὸν γενέσθω.

43Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.Ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος ἀπ᾽ οὐρανοῦ ἐνισχύων αὐτόν.

44And being in agony, He prayed more fervently. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down onto the ground.Καὶ γενόμενος ἐν ἀγωνίᾳ, ἐκτενέστερον προσηύχετο. Ἐγένετο δὲ ὁ ἱδρὼς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θρόμβοι αἵματος καταβαίνοντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.

45And rising up from prayer, coming to the disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.Καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀπὸ τῆς προσευχῆς, ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εὗρεν αὐτοὺς κοιμωμένους ἀπὸ τῆς λύπης,

46Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise up and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Τί καθεύδετε; Ἀναστάντες προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν.

47And while He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was going before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.Ἔτι δὲ αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος, ἰδού, ὄχλος καὶ ὁ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας, εἷς τῶν δώδεκα, προήρχετο αὐτούς, καὶ ἤγγισε τῷ Ἰησοῦ φιλῆσαι αὐτόν.

48But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Ἰούδα, φιλήματι τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδως;

49And those around Him, seeing what was about to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν τὸ ἐσόμενον εἶπον αὐτῷ, Κύριε, εἰ πατάξομεν ἐν μαχαίρᾳ;

50And a certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.Καὶ ἐπάταξεν εἷς τις ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν δοῦλον τοῦ ἀρχιερέως, καὶ ἀφεῖλεν αὐτοῦ τὸ οὖς τὸ δεξιόν.

51But Jesus answered and said, “Stop right there.” And touching his ear, He healed him.Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, Ἐᾶτε ἕως τούτου. Καὶ ἁψάμενος τοῦ ὠτίου αὐτοῦ, ἰάσατο αὐτόν.

52Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a bandit, with swords and clubs?Εἶπε δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς παραγενομένους ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ στρατηγοὺς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ πρεσβυτέρους, Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξεληλύθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων;

53When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”Καθ᾽ ἡμέραν ὄντος μου μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ, οὐκ ἐξετείνατε τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ. Ἀλλ᾽ αὕτη ὑμῶν ἐστιν ἡ ὥρα, καὶ ἡ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους.

54And having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter was following from a distance.Συλλαβόντες δὲ αὐτὸν ἤγαγον, καὶ εἰσήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀρχιερέως· ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει μακρόθεν.

55Now when they had lit a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat in their midst.Ἁψάντων δὲ πῦρ ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς, καὶ συγκαθισάντων αὐτῶν, ἐκάθητο ὁ Πέτρος ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν.

56And a certain servant girl, seeing him sitting at the fire and gazing at him, said, “This man was also with Him.”Ἰδοῦσα δὲ αὐτὸν παιδίσκη τις καθήμενον πρὸς τὸ φῶς, καὶ ἀτενίσασα αὐτῷ, εἶπε, Καὶ οὗτος σὺν αὐτῷ ἦν.

57But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”Ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο αὐτόν, λέγων, Γύναι, οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν.

58And after a little while another person saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”Καὶ μετὰ βραχὺ ἕτερος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἔφη, Καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ. Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος εἶπεν, Ἄνθρωπε, οὐκ εἰμί.

59Then after about one hour had passed, another was firmly insisting, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”Καὶ διαστάσης ὡσεὶ ὥρας μιᾶς, ἄλλος τις διϊσχυρίζετο, λέγων, Ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας καὶ οὗτος μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἦν· καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν.

60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.Εἶπε δὲ ὁ Πέτρος, Ἄνθρωπε, οὐκ οἶδα ὃ λέγεις. Καὶ παραχρῆμα, ἔτι λαλοῦντος αὐτοῦ, ἐφώνησεν ἀλέκτωρ.

61And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”Καὶ στραφεὶς ὁ Κύριος ἐνέβλεψε τῷ Πέτρῳ. Καὶ ὑπεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τοῦ λόγου τοῦ Κυρίου, ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι, ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς.

62And going outside, Peter wept bitterly.Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἔξω ὁ Πέτρος ἔκλαυσε πικρῶς.

63Now the men who were holding Jesus were mocking Him and beating Him.Καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ συνέχοντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ, δέροντες.

64And having blindfolded Him, they were striking His face and asking Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”Καὶ περικαλύψαντες αὐτόν, ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον, καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν, λέγοντες, Προφήτευσον. Τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε;

65And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.Καὶ ἕτερα πολλὰ βλασφημοῦντες ἔλεγον εἰς αὐτόν.

66And when it became day, the council of the elders of the people, the chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡμέρα, συνήχθη τὸ πρεσβυτέριον τοῦ λαοῦ, ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ γραμματεῖς, καὶ ἀνήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν, λέγοντες,

67“If You are the Messiah, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe.Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστός, εἰπὲ ἡμῖν. Εἶπε δὲ αὐτοῖς, Ἐὰν ὑμῖν εἴπω, οὐ μὴ πιστεύσητε·

68But if I also question you, you will by no means answer Me or release Me.ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ἐρωτήσω, οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῆτέ μοι, ἢ ἀπολύσητε.

69Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”Ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἔσται ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ.

70Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”Εἶπον δὲ πάντες, Σὺ οὖν εἶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ; Ὁ δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἔφη, Ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι.

71And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth!”Οἱ δὲ εἶπον, Τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτυρίας; Αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἠκούσαμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ.
