Mark 5
1Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gadarenes.Καὶ ἦλθον εἰς τὸ πέραν τῆς θαλάσσης, εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν.
2And when He got out of the boat, immediately there met Him from the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,καὶ ἐξελθόντι αὐτῷ ἐκ τοῦ πλοίου εὐθέως ἀπήντησεν αὐτῷ ἐκ τῶν μνημείων ἄνθρωπος ἐν πνεύματι ἀκαθάρτῳ,
3who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one could bind him, not even with chains,ὃς τὴν κατοίκησιν εἶχεν ἐν τοῖς μνήμασι, καὶ οὔτε ἁλύσεσιν οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο αὐτὸν δῆσαι
4because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the shackles had been broken, and no one was able to subdue him.διὰ τὸ αὐτὸν πολλάκις πέδαις καὶ ἁλύσεσι δεδέσθαι καὶ διεσπάσθαι ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ τὰς ἁλύσεις καὶ τὰς πέδας συντετρῖφθαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς αὐτὸν ἴσχυε δαμάσαι.
5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and bruising himself with stones.καὶ διὰ παντός, νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας, ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσι καὶ ἐν τοῖς μνήμασιν ἦν κράζων καὶ κατακόπτων ἑαυτὸν λίθοις.
6But seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran and worshiped Him,Ἰδὼν δὲ τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἔδραμε καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ,
7and crying out with a great voice he said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me!”καὶ κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ εἶπε, Τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ, υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου; ὁρκίζω σε τὸν Θεόν, μή με βασανίσῃς.
8For He was saying to him, “Come out from the man, unclean spirit!”ἔλεγε γὰρ αὐτῷ, Ἔξελθε, τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἀκάθαρτον, ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
9And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”καὶ ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, Τί σοι ὄνομα; καὶ ἀπεκρίθη λέγων, Λεγεὼν ὄνομά μοι, ὅτι πολλοί ἐσμεν.
10And he was imploring Him many times that He would not send them out of the region.καὶ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν πολλὰ ἵνα μὴ αὐτοὺς ἀποστείλῃ ἔξω τῆς χώρας.
11Now there was a large herd of swine feeding there near the mountain.Ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ πρὸς τῷ ὄρει ἀγέλη χοίρων μεγάλη βοσκομένη·
12So all the demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine, that we may enter them.”καὶ παρεκάλεσαν αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ δαίμονες λέγοντες, Πέμψον ἡμᾶς εἰς τοὺς χοίρους, ἵνα εἰς αὐτοὺς εἰσέλθωμεν.
13And immediately Jesus gave them permission. And when the unclean spirits came out, they entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, (there were about two thousand) and drowned in the sea.καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν αὐτοῖς εὐθέως ὁ Ἰησοῦς. καὶ ἐξελθόντα τὰ πνεύματα τὰ ἀκάθαρτα εἰσῆλθον εἰς τοὺς χοίρους, καὶ ὥρμησεν ἡ ἀγέλη κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν—ἦσαν δὲ ὡς δισχίλιοι—καὶ ἐπνίγοντο ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ.
14But those feeding the swine fled, and they reported it in the city and in the country. And they came out to see what it was that had happened.Οἱ δὲ βόσκοντες τοὺς χοίρους ἔφυγον καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ εἰς τοὺς ἀγρούς· καὶ ἐξῆλθον ἰδεῖν τί ἐστι τὸ γεγονός.
15Then they came to Jesus, and observed him who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and having been clothed and being of sound mind, and they were afraid.καὶ ἔρχονται πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ θεωροῦσι τὸν δαιμονιζόμενον καθήμενον καὶ ἱματισμένον καὶ σωφρονοῦντα, τὸν ἐσχηκότα τὸν Λεγεῶνα, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν.
16And those who saw it related to them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine.διηγήσαντο δὲ αὐτοῖς οἱ ἰδόντες πῶς ἐγένετο τῷ δαιμονιζομένῳ καὶ περὶ τῶν χοίρων.
17Then they began to implore Him to go away from their region.καὶ ἤρξαντο παρακαλεῖν αὐτὸν ἀπελθεῖν ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτῶν.
18And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed implored Him that he might be with Him.καὶ ἐμβάντος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πλοῖον, παρεκάλει αὐτὸν ὁ δαιμονισθεὶς ἵνα ᾖ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ.
19But Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your own family, and report to them all the things that the Lord has done for you, and how He had compassion on you.”ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς οὐκ ἀφῆκεν αὐτόν, ἀλλὰ λέγει αὐτῷ, Ὕπαγε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου πρὸς τοὺς σοὺς καὶ ἀνάγγειλον αὐτοῖς ὅσα σοι ὁ Κύριος πεποίηκε καὶ ἠλέησέ σε.
20And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all the things Jesus did for him; and all were marveling.καὶ ἀπῆλθε καὶ ἤρξατο κηρύσσειν ἐν τῇ Δεκαπόλει ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ πάντες ἐθαύμαζον.
21Now when Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd was gathered to Him; and He was beside the sea.Καὶ διαπεράσαντος τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ πάλιν εἰς τὸ πέραν συνήχθη ὄχλος πολὺς ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν, καὶ ἦν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν.
22And behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus. And seeing Him, he fell at His feet,καὶ ἰδού, ἔρχεται εἷς τῶν ἀρχισυναγώγων, ὀνόματι Ἰάειρος, καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν πίπτει πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ
23and was imploring Him many times, saying, “My little daughter is near death, please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed, and live.”καὶ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν πολλὰ λέγων ὅτι Τὸ θυγάτριόν μου ἐσχάτως ἔχει, ἵνα ἐλθὼν ἐπιθῇς αὐτῇ τὰς χεῖρας, ὅπως σωθῇ καὶ ζήσεται.
24And He went away with him. And a large crowd was following Him, and they were pressing against Him.καὶ ἀπῆλθε μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ὄχλος πολὺς καὶ συνέθλιβον αὐτόν.
25Now a certain woman, suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years,Καὶ γυνή τις οὖσα ἐν ῥύσει αἵματος ἔτη δώδεκα
26and who had suffered many things under many physicians, and who had spent everything at her disposal, and was no better, but rather having become worse,καὶ πολλὰ παθοῦσα ὑπὸ πολλῶν ἰατρῶν καὶ δαπανήσασα τὰ παρ᾽ αὐτῆς πάντα καὶ μηδὲν ὠφεληθεῖσα ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εἰς τὸ χεῖρον ἐλθοῦσα,
27when she heard about Jesus, she came from behind Him in the crowd and touched His clothing.ἀκούσασα περὶ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, ἐλθοῦσα ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ·
28For she was saying, “If only I may touch His clothes, I will be healed.”ἔλεγε γὰρ ὅτι Κἂν τῶν ἱματίων αὐτοῦ ἅψωμαι, σωθήσομαι.
29And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she knew in her body that she had been healed from her affliction.καὶ εὐθέως ἐξηράνθη ἡ πηγὴ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔγνω τῷ σώματι ὅτι ἴαται ἀπὸ τῆς μάστιγος.
30And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, He turned in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”καὶ εὐθέως ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐπιγνοὺς ἐν ἑαυτῷ τὴν ἐξ αὐτοῦ δύναμιν ἐξελθοῦσαν, ἐπιστραφεὶς ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἔλεγε, Τίς μου ἥψατο τῶν ἱματίων;
31But His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”καὶ ἔλεγον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, Βλέπεις τὸν ὄχλον συνθλίβοντά σε καὶ λέγεις, Τίς μου ἥψατο;
32And He was looking around to see her who had done this thing.καὶ περιεβλέπετο ἰδεῖν τὴν τοῦτο ποιήσασαν.
33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.ἡ δὲ γυνὴ φοβηθεῖσα καὶ τρέμουσα, εἰδυῖα ὃ γέγονεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῇ, ἦλθε καὶ προσέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀλήθειαν.
34And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ, Θύγατερ, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέ σε· ὕπαγε εἰς εἰρήνην καὶ ἴσθι ὑγιὴς ἀπὸ τῆς μάστιγός σου.
35While He was still speaking, they came from the synagogue leader, saying, “Your daughter has died. Why do you still trouble the Teacher?”Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἔρχονται ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου λέγοντες ὅτι Ἡ θυγάτηρ σου ἀπέθανε· τί ἔτι σκύλλεις τὸν διδάσκαλον;
36But Jesus, immediately when He heard the word being spoken, said to the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εὐθέως ἀκούσας τὸν λόγον λαλούμενον λέγει τῷ ἀρχισυναγώγῳ, Μὴ φοβοῦ· μόνον πίστευε.
37And He did not permit anyone to follow along with Him except for Peter, James, and John the brother of James.καὶ οὐκ ἀφῆκεν οὐδένα αὐτῷ συνακολουθῆσαι εἰ μὴ Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ἰακώβου.
38And He went to the house of the synagogue leader, and observed a commotion, and people weeping and wailing, very much.καὶ ἔρχεται εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου καὶ θεωρεῖ θόρυβον, κλαίοντας καὶ ἀλαλάζοντας πολλά.
39And when He went in, He said to them, “Why are you making such commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but she is asleep.”καὶ εἰσελθὼν λέγει αὐτοῖς, Τί θορυβεῖσθε καὶ κλαίετε; τὸ παιδίον οὐκ ἀπέθανεν ἀλλὰ καθεύδει.
40And they were ridiculing Him. But putting them all out, He took along the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and He went in where the child was lying.καὶ κατεγέλων αὐτοῦ. ὁ δὲ ἐκβαλὼν πάντας παραλαμβάνει τὸν πατέρα τοῦ παιδίου καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τοὺς μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἰσπορεύεται ὅπου ἦν τὸ παιδίον ἀνακείμενον.
41And having grasped the hand of the child, He said to her, “Talitha, koumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”καὶ κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ παιδίου λέγει αὐτῇ, Ταλιθά, κοῦμι, ὅ ἐστι μεθερμηνευόμενον, Τὸ κοράσιον, σοὶ λέγω, ἔγειραι.
42And immediately the little girl arose and was walking about, for she was twelve years old. And they were overcome with great amazement.καὶ εὐθέως ἀνέστη τὸ κοράσιον καὶ περιεπάτει—ἦν γὰρ ἐτῶν δώδεκα—καὶ ἐξέστησαν ἐκστάσει μεγάλῃ.
43But He ordered them strictly that no one should know this, and said that something should be given her to eat.καὶ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς πολλὰ ἵνα μηδεὶς γνῷ τοῦτο, καὶ εἶπε δοθῆναι αὐτῇ φαγεῖν.
