1And the people murmured sinfully before the Lord; and the Lord heard them and was very angry; and fire was kindled among them from the Lord, and devoured a part of the camp.Καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς γογγύζων πονηρὰ ἔναντι Κυρίου· καὶ ἤκουσε Κύριος, καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ· καὶ ἐξεκαύθη ἐν αὐτοῖς πῦρ παρὰ Κυρίου, καὶ κατέφαγε μέρος τι τῆς παρεμβολῆς.

2And the people cried to Moses: and Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire was quenched.Καὶ ἐκέκραξεν ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Μωυσῆν· καὶ ηὔξατο Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον, καὶ ἐκόπασε τὸ πῦρ.

3And the name of that place was called * Burning; for a fire was kindled among them from the Lord.Καὶ ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου, Ἐμπυρισμός· ὅτι ἐξεκαύθη ἐν αὐτοῖς παρὰ Κυρίου.

4And the mixed multitude among them lusted † exceedingly; and they and the children of Israel sat down and wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?Καὶ ὁ ἐπίμικτος ὁ ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐπεθύμησεν ἐπιθυμίαν· καὶ καθίσαντες ἔκλαιον καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ εἶπαν, τίς ἡμᾶς ψωμιεῖ κρέα;

5We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt freely; and the cucumbers, and the ‡ melons, and the leeks, and the garlic, and the onions.Ἐμνήσθημεν τοὺς ἰχθύας, οὓς ἠσθίομεν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ δωρεὰν. καὶ τοὺς σικύας, καὶ τοὺς πέπονας, καὶ τὰ πράσα, καὶ τὰ κρόμμυα, καὶ τὰ σκόρδα.

6But now our soul is dried up; our eyes turn to nothing but to the manna.Νυνὶ δὲ ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν κατάξηρος· οὐδὲν πλὴν εἰς τὸ μάννα οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἡμῶν.

7And the manna is as coriander seed, and the appearance of it the appearance of hoarfrost.Τὸ δὲ μάννα ὡσεὶ σπέρμα κορίου ἐστὶ, καὶ τὸ εἶδος αὐτοῦ εἶδος κρυστάλλου.

8And the people went through the field, and gathered, and ground it in the mill, or pounded it in a mortar, and baked it in a pan, and made cakes of it; and the sweetness of it was as the taste of wafer made with oil.Καὶ διεπορεύετο ὁ λαὸς, καὶ συνέλεγον, καὶ ἤληθον αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ μύλῳ, καὶ ἔτριβον ἐν τῇ θυΐᾳ, καὶ ἥψουν αὐτὸ ἐν τῇ χύτρᾳ, καὶ ἐποίουν αὐτὸ ἐνκρυφίας· καὶ ἦν ἡ ἡδονὴ αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ γεῦμα ἐγκρὶς ἐξ ἐλαίου.

9And when the dew came upon the camp by night, the manna came down upon it.Καὶ ὅταν κατέβη ἡ δρόσος ἐπὶ τὴν παρεμβολὴν νυκτὸς, κατέβαινε τὸ μάννα ἐπʼ αὐτῆς.

10And Moses heard them weeping by their families, every one in his door: and the Lord was very angry; and the thing was evil in the sight of Moses.Καὶ ἤκουσε Μωυσῆς κλαίοντων αὐτῶν κατά δήμους αὐτῶν, ἕκαστον ἐπὶ τῆς θύρας αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ Κύριος σφόδρα· καὶ ἔναντι Μωυσῆ ἦν πονηρόν.

11And Moses said to the Lord, Why have you afflicted your servant, and why have I not found grace in your sight, that you should lay the weight of this people upon me?Καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον, ἱνατί ἐκάκωσας τὸν θεράποντά σου, καὶ διατί οὐχ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ἐπιθεῖναι τὴν ὁρμὴν τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου ἐπʼ ἐμέ;

12Have I conceived all this people, or have I born them? that you say to me, Take them into your bosom, as a nurse would take her suckling, into the land which you swore to their fathers?Μὴ ἐγὼ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔλαβον πάντα τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον, ἢ ἐγὼ ἔτεκον αὐτούς; ὅτι λέγεις μοι, λάβε αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν κόλπον σου, ὡσεὶ ἄραι τιθηνὸς τὸν θηλάζοντα, εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσας τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν;

13Whence have I flesh to give to all this people? for they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.Πόθεν μοι κρέα, δοῦναι παντὶ τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ; ὅτι κλαίουσιν ἐπʼ ἐμοὶ, λέγοντες, δὸς ἡμῖν κρέα, ἵνα φάγωμεν.

14I shall not be able to bear this people alone, for this thing is too heavy for me.Οὐ δυνήσομαι ἐγὼ μόνος φέρειν τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον, ὅτι βαρύτερόν μοι ἐστὶ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο.

15And if you do thus to me, kill me utterly, if I have found favor with you, that I may not see my affliction.Εἰ δʼ οὕτω σὺ ποιεῖς μοι, ἀπόκτεινόν με ἀναιρέσει, εἰ εὕρηκα ἔλεος παρὰ σοὶ, ἵνα μὴ ἴδω τὴν κάκωσίν μου.

16And the Lord said to Moses, Gather me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you yourself know that they are the elders of the people, and their scribes; and you shall bring them to the tabernacle of witness, and they shall stand there with you.Καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆς, συνάγαγέ μοι ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων Ἰσραήλ, οὓς αὐτὸς σὺ οἶδας, ὅτι οὗτοί εἰσι πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶς· καὶ ἄξεις αὐτοὺς πρὸς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου, καὶ στήσονται ἐκεῖ μετὰ σοῦ.

17And I will go down, and speak there with you; and I will take of the spirit that is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear together with you the § burden of the people, and you shall not bear them alone.Καὶ καταβήσομαι, καὶ λαλήσω ἐκεῖ μετὰ σοῦ· καὶ ἀφελῶ ἀπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ ἐπὶ σοὶ, καὶ ἐπιθήσω ἐπʼ αὐτούς· καὶ συναντιλήψονται μετὰ σοῦ τὴν ὁρμὴν τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ οὐκ οἴσεις αὐτὸς σὺ μόνος.

18And to the people you shall say, Purify yourselves for the morrow, and you shall eat flesh; for you wept before the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it ** was well with us in Egypt: and the Lord shall allow you to eat flesh, and you shall eat flesh.Καὶ τῷ λαῷ ἐρεῖς, ἁγνίσασθε εἰς αὔριον, καὶ φάγεσθε κρέα· ὅτι ἐκλαύσατε ἔναντι Κυρίου, λέγοντες, τίς ἡμᾶς ψωμιεῖ κρέα; ὅτι καλὸν ἡμῖν ἐστιν ἐν Αἰγυπτῳ· καὶ δώσει Κύριος ὑμῖν φαγεῖν κρέα, καὶ φάγεσθε κρέα.

19You shall not eat one day, nor two, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days;Οὐχ ἡμέραν μίαν φάγεσθε, οὐ δὲ δύο, οὐ δὲ πέντε ἡμέρας, οὐ δὲ δέκα ἡμέρας, οὐ δὲ εἴκοσι ἡμέρας,

20you shall eat for †† a full month, until the flesh come out at your nostrils; and it shall be ‡‡ nausea to you, because you disobeyed the Lord, who is among you, and wept before him, saying, What had we to do to come out of Egypt?ἕως μηνὸς ἡμερῶν φάγεσθε, ἕως ἂν ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῶν μυκτήρων ὑμῶν· καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν εἰς χολέραν, ὅτι ἠπειθήσατε Κυρίῳ, ὅς ἐστιν ἐν ὑμῖν, καὶ ἐκλαύσατε ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ, λέγοντες, ἱνατί ἡμῖν ἐξελθεῖν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου;

21And Moses said, The people among whom I am are six hundred thousand footmen; and you said, I will give them flesh to eat, and they shall eat a whole month.Καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς, ἑξακόσιαι χιλιάδες πεζῶν ὁ λαὸς, ἐν οἷς εἰμι ἐν αὐτοῖς· καὶ σὺ εἶπας, κρέα δώσω αὐτοῖς φαγεῖν, καὶ φάγονται μῆνα ἡμερῶν·

22Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, and shall it suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, and shall it suffice them?Μὴ πρόβατα καὶ βόες σφαγήσονται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς; ἢ πᾶν τὸ ὄψος τῆς θαλάσσης συναχθήσεται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς;

23And the Lord said to Moses, Shall not the hand of the Lord be fully sufficient? now shall you know whether my word shall §§ come to pass to you or not.Καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν, μὴ χεὶρ Κυρίου οὐκ ἐξαρκέσει; ἤδη γνώσῃ εἰ ἐπικαταλήμψεταί σε ὁ λόγος μου ἢ οὔ.

24And Moses went out, and spoke the words of the Lord to the people; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and he set them round about the tabernacle.Καὶ ἐξῆλθε Μωυσῆς, καὶ ἐλάλησε πρὸς τὸν λαὸν τὰ ῥήματα Κυρίου· καὶ συνήγαγεν ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸς κύκλῳ τῆς σκηνῆς.

25And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy men that were elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and ceased.Καὶ κατέβη Κύριος ἐν νεφέλῃ, καὶ ἐλάλησε πρὸς αὐτόν· καὶ παρείλατο ἀπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους· ὡς δὲ ἐπανεπαύσατο πνεῦμα ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἐπροφήτευσαν, καὶ οὐκ ἔτι προσέθεντο.

26And there were two men left in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Modad; and the spirit rested upon them, and these were of the number of them that were enrolled, but they did not come to the tabernacle; and they prophesied in the camp.Καὶ κατελείφθησαν δύο ἄνδρες ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ, ὄνομα τῷ ἑνὶ Ἑλδὰδ, καὶ ὄνομα τῷ δευτέρῳ Μωδάδ· καὶ ἐπανεπαύσατο ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς πνεῦμα· καὶ οὗτοι ἦσαν τῶν καταγεγραμμένων, καὶ οὐκ ἦλθον πρὸς τὴν σκηνήν· καὶ ἐπροφήτευσαν ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ.

27And a young man ran and told Moses, and spoke, saying, Eldad and Modad prophesy in the camp.Καὶ προσδραμὼν ὁ νεανίσκος, ἀπήγγειλε Μωυσῇ· καὶ εἶπε, λέγων, Ἑλδὰδ καὶ Μωδὰδ προφητεύουσιν ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ.

28And Joshua the son of Naue, who attended on Moses, the chosen one, said, My lord Moses, forbid them.Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ναυὴ, ὁ παρεστηκὼς Μωυσῇ, ὁ ἐκλεκτὸς, εἶπε, κύριε Μωυσῆ, κώλυσον αὐτούς.

29And Moses said to him, Are you jealous on my account? and would that all the Lord's people were prophets; whenever the Lord shall put his spirit upon them.Καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς αὐτῷ, μὴ ζηλοῖς ἐμέ; καὶ τίς δῴη πάντα τὸν λαὸν Κυρίου προφήτας, ὅταν δῷ Κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ ἐπʼ αὐτούς;

30And Moses departed into the camp, himself and the elders of Israel.Καὶ ἀπῆλθε Μωυσῆς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ἰσραήλ.

31And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought quails over from the sea; and it brought them down upon the camp a day's journey on this side, and a day's journey on that side, round about the camp, as it were two cubits from the earth.Καὶ πνεῦμα ἐξῆλθε παρὰ Κυρίου, καὶ ἐξεπέρασεν ὀρτυγομήτραν ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης· καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ἐπὶ τὴν παρεμβολὴν ὁδὸν ἡμέρας ἐντεῦθεν, καὶ ὁδὸν ἡμέρας ἐντεῦθεν, κύκλῳ τῆς παρεμβολῆς, ὡσεὶ δίπηχυ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς.

32And the people rose up all the day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered quails; he that gathered *** least, gathered ten ††† measures; and they ‡‡‡ refreshed themselves round about the camp.Καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ λαὸς ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, καὶ ὅλην τὴν νύκτα, καὶ ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν τὴν ἐπαύριον, καὶ συνήγαγον τὴν ὀρτυγομήτραν· ὁ τὸ ὀλίγον, συνήγαγε δέκα κόρους· καὶ ἔψυξαν ἑαυτοῖς ψυγμοὺς κύκλῳ τῆς παρεμβολῆς.

33The flesh was yet between their teeth, before it failed, when the Lord was angry with the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague.Τὰ κρέα ἔτι ἦν ἐν τοῖς ὀδοῦσιν αὐτῶν πρινὴ ἐκλείπειν, καὶ Κύριος ἐθυμώθη εἰς τὸν λαὸν, καὶ ἐπάταξε Κύριος τὸν λαὸν πληγὴν μεγάλην σφόδρα.

34And the name of that place was called the Graves of Lust; for there they buried the people that lusted.Καὶ ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου, Μνήματα τῆς ἐπιθυμίας· ὅτι ἐκεῖ ἔθαψαν τὸν λαὸν τὸν ἐπιθυμητήν.

35The people departed from the §§§ Graves of Lust to Aseroth; and the people * halted at Aseroth.Ἀπὸ Μνημάτων ἐπιθυμίας ἐξῇρεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς Ἀσηρώθ· καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ λαὸς ἐν Ἀσηρώθ.
