Book of Esther

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

— a canonical book of Holy Scripture, consisting of ten chapters, containing the history of Esther. Its author (in Hebrew, of course) is held by the majority of Jewish writers and Christian theologians to be Mordecai himself, to which the book itself in some measure points (9:20). It is doubtful, however, whether Mordecai actually wrote the book himself; in any case it was written from his account, and is therefore worthy of trust.
