Dok Docus

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(1 Macc. 16:15) — a small fortress near Jericho, where the high priest Simon was murdered. According to the testimony of Josephus, this fortress was called Docus. Traces of it are found today six versts northwest of Jericho, near the spring Ain Duk. These ruins perhaps belong to the biblical Dok, or, more likely, to the medieval Knights Templar.
