(God is perfect, blameless) (2 Kgs 15:30, 32-38) - son and successor of Azariah, commonly called Uzziah, king of Judah. Although he is thought to have reigned only sixteen years, royal authority had already been in his hands for several years because his father Azariah suffered from leprosy (2 Kgs 15:5). The principal acts of his pious reign, related in 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles, were victories over the Ammonites and efforts to strengthen Jerusalem and fortify Judah. Isaiah, Hosea, and Micah prophesied during his reign. He appears in the genealogy of the Lord (Matt 1:9).
