Meribah, otherwise Massah

(temptation, reproach, strife) (Exod 17:7) — a place in the wilderness of Sinai where the Israelites murmured against Moses for lack of water, and where Moses, at God’s command, brought water out of the rock. In 1 Cor 10:4 the apostle Paul gives a higher spiritual meaning to the rock that poured forth water, pointing to Christ: “And that Rock was Christ,” he says.
