Rages

or Rages of Media (Tob. 1:14; 4:20 and elsewhere)—an ancient and important Median city northeast of Ecbatana and near Tehran, the source-era capital of Persia. It lay a ten-day journey from Ecbatana, and Gabael, Tobit’s kinsman, lived there. The source reports traces of its ruins about one English mile southeast of Tehran.
