Regem-melech

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(friend of the king) (Zech. 7:2)—one of two messengers sent to Jerusalem in the reign of Darius to entreat God’s favor and ask the priests and prophets whether the fast of the fifth month, commemorating Nebuchadnezzar’s burning of the Temple, should continue. The source discusses whether those who sent him were still in exile and concludes from the reference to Darius that the Babylonian captivity had not yet fully ended for them.

Scripture cited

Zacharias 7:2
