(2 Esdras 2:16) (in the First Book of Ezra, 4:15, it is read Bishlam) — one of the members of the council in Coele-Syria and Phoenicia, who set forth in a letter to Artaxerxes, king of Persia, the danger from the rebuilding of the rebellious and treacherous city of Jerusalem. As a result of this letter, the rebuilding of Jerusalem, by order of Artaxerxes, was halted until the second year of the reign of Darius, king of Persia.
