Zerah

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(rising of the sun) (2 Chron. 14:9) — king of Ethiopia, who invaded Judah in the reign of Asa with a thousand thousand warriors and three hundred chariots, but who, by the help of God, was defeated by Asa at Mareshah. By the name Zerah is generally understood Osorkon, king of Egypt of the 22nd, Bubastite, dynasty. That Zerah was a sovereign of Egypt is shown by the composition of his army, which consisted of Egyptians and Libyans and possessed a great many war chariots (2 Chron. 16:9 [as given]).
