(gatherer) (Prov. 30:1) — son of Jakeh, an Israelite sage known for his sayings recorded in chapter 30 of the Book of Proverbs of Solomon. His sayings reveal a man both devout and profound, attentive to the phenomena of nature and human life. Some think that Solomon is meant under this name; but Solomon had no grounds for so concealing his name, nor could he, the richest king on the whole earth, ask God not to give him poverty or riches.
