(Isa. 5:26)—a visible signal by which people or troops are summoned and gathered. Ancient standards may have been distinguished by color or emblem, though the source’s details are conjectural. A “banner on a hill” could be a conspicuous pole or cloth marking a rallying point (Isa. 30:17).
