Beth-arbel Jeroboam

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(place of ambush, snare) (Hos. 10:14) — a city mentioned by the prophet as destroyed by Shalman (perhaps Shalmaneser) in a day of battle. Many identified it with the settlement of Irbid in Galilee, mentioned by Josephus and in 1 Maccabees (9:2). In Robinson’s opinion, this is at present the ruins of Irbid, west of Magdala, three or four English miles from Tiberias.

Scripture cited
