Eden, and the house of Eden

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Amos 1:5) (house of pleasure) — a city in Syria, probably a royal residence or summer palace. It is named among the other places of Syria that were to undergo divine punishment. Places bearing a similar name still exist today and are mentioned by modern travelers. One of these is located on the eastern slope of Lebanon, near the cedar forest, at Bsharri, under the name Ehden — in a picturesque locality in which, according to the belief of eastern Christians, Paradise was situated. Another place of similar name is found on the eastern slope of Mount Hermon, and elsewhere.
