(city) (Amos 1:5; 9:7; Isa 22:6; 2 Kgs 16:9) - an ancient city first named by Amos as the place of captivity appointed by God for the Syrians. Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria indeed carried the people of Damascus captive to Kir (2 Kgs 16:9). Isaiah 22:6 probably points to the same city. Its location was difficult to determine; that it lay under Assyrian rule was all the source considered certain.
