Fat
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
—the fat portions of sacrificial animals were reserved for the LORD and burned upon the altar; Israel was commanded not to eat sacrificial fat or blood (Lev. 3:16–17; 7:22–27). The rule expresses the consecration of the choicest portion to God and the sanctity of blood. It should not be explained by the source’s obsolete claim that dietary fat predisposed Jews to leprosy or contagious disease.
