Goat, he-goat

(Lev 3:12) - flocks of goats were among the most important forms of household wealth in antiquity (Gen 27:9; 1 Sam 25:2). Though resembling sheep, goats are livelier and quicker. They eat bark and young shoots, and their feet are well adapted for climbing and leaping among rocks and mountains. Goat's milk was valued as food and was also used medicinally: 'And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens' (Prov 27:27).
