Gospel according to Luke

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

- the third canonical Gospel, a legislative book of the New Testament consisting of twenty-four chapters. Luke says that the example of many earlier narrators and his desire to establish the God-fearing Theophilus in true faith moved him to write an exact and fully reliable account of the Gospel history (Luke 1:1-4). It begins with the circumstances surrounding the births of the Forerunner and the Lord Jesus Christ and ends with the Lord's ascension.

Scripture cited

Luke 1:1
