Habakkuk

, among the Hebrews Havakkuk (embracer) — one of the twelve so-called minor prophets, about the time and place of whose birth Holy Scripture says nothing. Jewish traditions concerning his birthplace, life, and death do not deserve attention. One thing alone is certain: he lived in the reign of Josiah and was a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah. It is generally supposed that he lived continuously in Judea and died there. In the time of Eusebius, the tomb of the prophet Habakkuk was shown in the city of Keilah, near Eleutheropolis.
