Habor

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(2 Kings 17:6; 18:11; 1 Chron. 5:26)—a river in Gozan beside which Assyrian kings settled deportees from Israel. It is generally identified with the Khabur, a major tributary of the Euphrates in northern Mesopotamia. The deportation notices belong to the campaigns of Tiglath-pileser III and the fall of Samaria under the later Assyrian kings.
