Ish-tob
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(man of the land of Tob, or man of Tob) (2 Sam 10:6-8) - the name of a people or country beyond the Jordan. Jephthah withdrew to the land of Tob after his brothers expelled him from his father's house in the days of the judges (Judg 11:3). The Ammonites purchased Ish-tob's alliance during the wars with David. It is very possible that the word denotes the inhabitants of Tob. Josephus takes it as the name of a king.
