Jacinth.

A word occurring in the Apocalypse, both as the name of a color (9:17) and as the name of a precious stone, numbered among the 12 precious stones forming one of the foundations of the walls of the new Jerusalem (21:20). Jacinth is a variety of zircon, red, yellow, or pale green in color. Some consider it identical with amethyst, others with the sardonyx. It is found in the Urals, but chiefly on the island of Ceylon, in sandy deposits. Jacinth, in the opinion of the ancients, possessed the property of attracting small bodies to itself, like amber.
