(Exod. 28:19)—the first stone in the third row of the high priest’s breastpiece in traditional renderings. The Hebrew leshem has been identified with jacinth, ligure, amber, or another reddish or golden stone; the precise mineral is unknown. The source suggested red tourmaline and compared its attractive electrical property with amber, but this remains conjectural.
