Kingdom of Heaven
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
—an expression especially frequent in Matthew. Elsewhere the New Testament commonly speaks of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Christ, or simply the Kingdom. The source distinguishes three related senses: God’s reign drawing near in the person and ministry of Jesus, its manifestation in the Church and the new covenant, and the final Kingdom of glory when God makes a new heaven and a new earth. These senses overlap rather than describing three unrelated kingdoms.
