(double cave) (Gen 23:9, 1) — a field and cave near Hebron, purchased by Abraham for a burial place, in which he himself, his wife, and some of his children were indeed buried. It lies on one side of a high hill to the southwest. Over the cave, still regarded to this day as the family vault of the patriarchs, a monument has been erected, now called the Haram of Hebron, a particular landmark of Hebron and a site that draws the attention of all travelers. From the top of the hill a beautiful view opens over the valley of Mamre.
