Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(heap of dung) (Josh 15:31) — a city in the south of the tribe of Judah, mentioned together with Ziklag and Sansannah, and assigned, with other cities, to the tribe of Simeon. According to Eusebius, this was a small settlement near Gaza, known in his day by the name Menois, thought to correspond to the more recent settlement of Minyay, a station on the great route from Egypt into western Palestine, 15 English miles southwest of Gaza.
