Manoah Manoe

(rest) (Judg 13:2) — a pious man of Zorah, of the tribe of Dan. Though married, he had for a long time had no children; but an angel appeared to his wife and told her she would bear a son. Learning of this, Manoah prayed to the Lord that the angel of the Lord would appear to him also and teach him how he should deal with the child that was to be born. The prayer was heard, and after some time a son was born to them, whom they named Samson (see Samson) (Judg 13). Manoah and his wife are mentioned further in the book of Judges, on the occasion of their son’s wedding, to which they at first did not consent but afterward gave their agreement (14:2-10).

Manoah died before his son. Therefore, when Samson perished heroically together with the Philistine lords and people he had avenged himself upon — some 3,000 people — in the house he pulled down, only his brothers came to bury him between Zorah and Eshtaol, in the tomb of Manoah his father (16:31).
