Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(dance) (1 Sam 18:19; 2 Sam 21:8) — the birthplace of the prophet Elisha (1 Kings 19:16) and of Adriel, son of Barzillai, to whom Saul gave his daughter Merab in marriage (2 Sam 21:8). It is thought to be the same place as Abel-meholah, and to have lain in the tribe of Issachar, an hour’s journey from the Jordan, near Tabbath (Judg 7:22).
