Michael

(who is like God) the Archangel, whose name occurs three times in the Book of the prophet Daniel, once in the Epistle of the Apostle Jude, and once in the Revelation of St. John. In the prophet Daniel (10:13) he is called one of the chief princes, and in chapter 12 (verse 1), the great prince who stands for the children of his people. The holy Apostle Jude calls him Michael the Archangel (v. 9). In the Book of Revelation (12:7) there is described a war in heaven, in which Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought against him (12:7).

The veneration of the holy Archangel Michael in the Orthodox Church goes back to the most ancient times. His commemoration is kept on November 8 and September 6.
