Micah the prophet

(Micah 1:1, Jer. 26:18)—one of the minor prophets, called the Morasthite, since he was a native of Moresheth, a small town of Judah, near Eleutheropolis, south of Jerusalem. He prophesied in the days of the kings of Judah: Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, and was thus almost a contemporary of the prophet Isaiah, who carried out his prophetic ministry not only in the days of these same kings, but also under Uzziah, father of Jotham (Micah 1:1; compare with Isaiah 1:1, 2:1). Holy Scripture and tradition tell us nothing of the origin of the prophet Micah, his parents, or his life. Some biblical interpreters think that one of his prophecies saved the life of Jeremiah (Jer. 26:18–24). His memory is celebrated by the Church on August 14.
