Neapolis

(new city) (Acts 16:11)—the name of several places in ancient times. Neapolis, in Holy Scripture, was a city and Macedonian port, on the Strymonian Gulf, located not far from the city of Philippi and on the borders of Thrace. The holy Apostle Paul, on his way to Neapolis from Samothrace, stopped here for a time and then proceeded on to the city of Philippi, where at that time the harbor was located. Neapolis is now called Kavalla, where to this day there are still visible traces of many considerable buildings and structures.
