Oak of Tabor Thabor
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(1 Sam. 10:3)—a landmark on the road from Rachel’s tomb toward Gibeah. After Samuel anointed Saul, he foretold that Saul would meet three men there going up to God at Bethel: one carrying three young goats, one carrying three loaves, and one carrying a skin of wine. They would greet Saul and give him two loaves. Samuel then described further signs, culminating in the Spirit of the LORD coming powerfully upon Saul so that he would prophesy and be changed into another man (1 Sam. 10:3-7). The landmark’s relation to Mount Tabor is uncertain.
