Psalter

(praise, thanksgiving, or song of praise; in Hebrew, Book of Praises)—one of the Old Testament’s instructional books. It is so called because most of its psalms contain praise and thanksgiving to God. The name also reflects the Greek verb psallo, “to sing” or “to play,” since the psalms were sung in Jewish worship with musical instruments.
