Prophet

. The word prophet may mean, first, one who foretells the future and, second, one who by a special inspiration of the Holy Spirit speaks to others a word of edification, exhortation, and comfort (1 Cor. 14:3). Scripture tells of the labors and sayings of many prophets: Enoch, Noah, Abraham and the other patriarchs; Moses, Aaron, and Miriam; Deborah; Samuel, Gad, Nathan, Asaph, Jeduthun, Heman, David, Solomon, Ahijah, Joel the seer, the man of God from Judah, Huldah, Azariah, Hanani, Elijah, Elisha, Jonah, Amos, Hosea, Joel, Isaiah, Micah, Obadiah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Haggai, Baruch, Zechariah, Malachi, Zechariah the father of the Forerunner, Simeon the God-receiver, Anna, John the Baptist, Agabus, and others.
