Susanna

—the name of two women. (1) (Susanna 1–64, the Greek addition to Daniel) the beautiful and devout wife of Joakim, falsely accused of adultery by two elders after she rejected them. Condemned on their testimony, she was vindicated when the young Daniel questioned the accusers separately and exposed their contradiction. The story survives in Greek and is absent from the Hebrew-Aramaic form of Daniel. (2) (Luke 8:3) one of the women who, having been healed, accompanied Jesus and supported Him and the Twelve from their own resources. Later church calendars preserve commemorations not supplied by Luke.
