Walnut tree; nuts; nut garden

(Song 6:11). The walnut tree is native to Persia and from there passed into Palestine, Greece, and Italy. In the days of Josephus many walnut trees grew along the shores of Lake Gennesaret. Lebanon was especially rich in them in the source’s day, and travelers described long avenues of walnut trees leading into Damascus. Its fruit is the walnut. The tree’s strong and beautiful trunk provides valuable timber for cabinet work, and the well-known walnut oil is pressed from the kernels. See Walnut.
