Wild goats

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Job 39:1) - also called mountain goats because they live on nearly inaccessible peaks. They are difficult to catch and still harder to domesticate, and remained common in many parts of Syria. Bedouins made bottles from their skins and rings from their horns. On precipitous rocks they easily escaped hunters, sometimes leaping twenty feet, though they were more readily caught in valleys. First Samuel 24:2 and Job 39:1 refer to their manner of life.
