Achzib
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(false, deceptive) — the name of two places: a) (Josh. 15:44) a city of the tribe of Judah, mentioned in the Book of Joshua; its exact location unknown; b) (Josh. 19:29; Judg. 1:31) a Canaanite city given to the tribe of Asher. It was located near the Mediterranean Sea, south of Tyre. Asher, however, was unable to drive the Canaanites from this city. At present it is the extensive settlement of ez-Zib, nine or ten English miles north of Acco, or Acre, with considerable ancient ruins.
