Achshaph

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(place of enchantment, sorcery) (Josh. 11:1; 12:20; 19:25) — a city of the tribe of Asher. From the Book of Joshua it appears that it was once a royal residence of the Canaanites, but their king was defeated by Joshua. In Jerome’s opinion, in his time there was, on the site of Achshaph, a small settlement: Chasalus. It is quite possible that this is the present-day Keisan, whose ruins were found by Robinson (III, 55) northwest of the Hulah.

Scripture cited

Joshua 11:1
