(locust) (Acts 11:28) — one of the prophets who foretold, in the year 43 A.D., a famine which, as secular historians affirm, struck the land the following year. Some years later (Acts 21:11) he met the Apostle Paul at Caesarea and, by an allegorical sign, foretold the sufferings awaiting him in Jerusalem should he continue his journey to that city. Some suppose that Agabus was one of the seventy disciples of the Lord, and that he suffered martyrdom in Antioch. His memory is kept on January 4 and April 8.
