(flaming) (Num. 24:7) was a king of the Amalekites. Some think that this name was a common title of the Amalekite kings, just as the title “Pharaoh” was a common designation for the kings of Egypt; from the mention of him in the prophetic passage cited above, we may suppose that he was one of the most powerful kings of that time. Another person of the same name was taken captive by Saul during the defeat of the Amalekites (1 Sam. 15:8); but Saul spared his life, and he was afterward brought to Samuel, who cut him in pieces (1 Sam. 15:33) —
