Aenon
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(perhaps: spring of the dove, or dove’s spring) — a place where John baptized, “because there was much water there” (John 3:23). It was probably located west of the Jordan. The Evangelist says that it was near Salim, and, according to the testimony of Jerome, 8 Roman miles from Scythopolis (Beth-shean). In Robinson’s opinion, Salim, with its two considerable springs, was located near Nablus (Shechem); but the location of Aenon has not been precisely established.
