Book of Zephaniah
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
—a prophetic book of three chapters. It announces the coming day of the LORD against idolatry and injustice in Judah and against the surrounding nations. Judgment is universal in scope, yet the humble are summoned to seek the LORD, righteousness, and meekness (Zeph. 2:3). The book closes with restoration: purified peoples shall call upon the LORD, the remnant shall dwell securely, and Zion shall rejoice because the King of Israel is in her midst (Zeph. 3:8–20). Its exultant call, “Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel,” has long sustained messianic and ecclesial readings (Zeph. 3:14–15).
