(submersion, drowning) (Gen. 14:2–8) — one of the five cities in the valley of Siddim, destroyed for their wickedness by the Lord with fire and brimstone (see the Sea of Asphalt). Gomorrah is frequently mentioned together with Sodom, and the names of both are often used to denote extreme wickedness among a people (Isa. 1:10) and the strictness of God’s judgment against the wicked (Zeph. 2:9; Rom. 9:29).
