Bow, as a weapon

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Gen 21:20; 27:3; Hab 3:9; Rev 6:2 and elsewhere) - bows used for hunting and war among the Hebrews were made of wood, bronze, iron, horn, reed, and even ivory. Egyptian bows resembled those used in medieval times by various European peoples, including the English; the Greek bow was shaped like a buffalo horn. Mounted archers ordinarily carried horn-shaped bows in leather cases, a custom still found in the East in the source's day, though a bow was sometimes hung at the right thigh.
