— the name of several cities: a) (Jer. 48:24) a city of Moab, north of the Arnon, on the plateau of Mishor, thought to be identical with Bezer-of-Reuben (Deut. 4:43; Josh. 20:8); b) (1 Macc. 5:26–36) a city in the land of Gilead; c) (1 Sam. 30:9–21) the valley and brook of Besor, at the southern extremity of the inheritance of the tribe of Judah. Here the patriarch Isaac once pitched his tents (Gen. 26:17). David once crossed the brook of Besor with 600 of his men, of whom 200, worn out with fatigue, remained by the brook, while the remaining 400 went in pursuit of the Amalekites (1 Sam. 30:18–21).
